THE OLYMPIC GAMES: NOW AND THEN

Since then, they have been held all over the world, attended by more than 200 countries and have included many different sports. Our students of the third year of High School presented the history, the Olympic symbols, the events, the competitors, the awards, the rules and requirements as well as their favourite sport in class.

Pointing out the similarities and the differences, made the students realise  that the Ancient Olympics were far different than our contemporary international sports festivals. The main and most important, though, similarity is the idea of "Olympism" and nobody can put it better than the Olympics committee itself:

Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.
