HUMAN RIGHTS ARE FOR EVERYONE

"Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home -- so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world." Eleanor Roosevelt said.

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December when the United Nations Genaral Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Our sixth graders were shown a poster where different scenes of everyday life were presented; people protesting, children playing, policemen catching thieves. The children were asked to describe the scenes displayed on the poster, become human rights detectives and match them with the human rights list which were handed in.
