"RESPECT DIVERSITY"

A workshop was organised in our school by the British Council and the Olympic Truce. The main purpose of this workshop was to help students develop their social skills which they can use in order to face any difficult situations.

During the workshop, Mr Parry Cliff, the Educational Manager of the British Council, asked the students to dream of travelling to an island with a suitcase full of different "possessions", such as money, love, school, family and friends. Their trip was difficult and the students had to dispose of these "things" and finally have only two in their suitcase. The children, who were placed in groups, reached their destination keeping "love", "family" or "friends" in their luggagge. Then they played several other games using tablets in groups. The main outcome of this workshop was that "together" they succeeded in working better.

Finally, Mrs Evi Moraitidou, the Olympic champion, talked to the pupils how team work and cooperation helped her and her polo team win the bronze medal in the Olympics. She also referred to the Olympic Ideas of 'inspiration', 'equality', 'friendship', 'respect', 'courage' and 'excellence'. She also showed our young children the torch she held during the Olympic games which were held in London.

This workshop gave the opportunity to our students not only to use their English language but also experience a different way of working together.
