A BOOK IS A GIFT YOU CAN OPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN

Encouraging our students to read English literature is of paramount importance to us. Taking the opportunity of the nice weather, we decided to have an outdoor English literature lesson at the amphitheatre of our school yard! The story of “Blackbeard’s Treasure” was our precious companion during this literary adventure!

A “Pirate’s Pocket Book” had been specially designed for each student prior to the lesson. The Pirate’s Pocket Book presented the first two chapters of the story of Blackbeard’s Treasure in a language adapted to our learners’ level. Each student got a Pirate’s Pocket Book as a gift and the journey started… We read the story, explained new words and worked on a number of comprehension questions to enhance understanding. Tiny treasure maps and treasure chest printouts were handed out later as a reward for our students’ good work!

Everyone was really excited to read the Pirate’s Pocket Book outdoors and realised that this was a gift they could open again and again! Reading books fuels the development of all aspects of language ability in the most effective way and its importance to the development of our students into well-rounded individuals really can't be overstated.
