Our interactive whiteboard and a large-scale crossword puzzle have set the stage for a special English lesson: a lesson aimed at expanding our students’ understanding of European geography and stimulating their interest in exploring Europe!
A challenging crossword puzzle formed the main component of the English geography lesson designed for our 4th graders. In attempting to identify the correct puzzle answers, our students were prompted to navigate a large-scale map of Europe displayed on our interactive whiteboard and reflect on their existing knowledge of European geography! They were thus offered an excellent opportunity to enhance their mental mapping and analytical thinking skills, while practising English and gaining familiarity with important facts about Europe!
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) activities of this type are particularly beneficial for primary school learners as they enable them to draw strong links between their foreign language skills and the ways in which these skills can be used in a real-life context!
