The interests of our young learners are always a source of inspiration for the lessons that we plan. This time we decided to spend a day with the Smurfs in the forest and learn useful vocabulary related to nature along the way!
A colourful 3D cardboard model of a forest was used as the setting of our new vocabulary adventure! Our little learners were also provided with a Smurf mini-book that had been specially created for them prior to the lesson. The mini-book contained all the vocabulary items and phrases we were going to work on. Besides practising reading with our mini-books, we ‘walked around’ our 3D forest by saying the new words out loud and also played a memory game with flashcards on the traditional board and on the interactive whiteboard. We ended our trip by playing a special “Hopscotch” game that involved our young students in a fun kinesthetic learning activity. Our learners had to hop on a colourful Hopscotch mat while saying out loud English words or numbers, as required by the game. Upon reaching the end of the Hopscotch mat, they had to recall the vocabulary item displayed on the flashcard held by their classmate who was standing right at the end of the Hopscotch mat!
At the end of our forest trip, there was a little present for our students to take back home: the Smurf mini-book that would allow them to revise the new vocabulary over the next few weeks. We look forward to our next exciting vocabulary adventure!
